A Gap In Your Career Doesn't Have to be a Gap in Progress
/

Your career opportunities won’t dry up just because you took a some time off.

But there will be questions. So own your gaps. If you haven’t taken a sabbatical yet, you’re in the best position because you have time to think about how you will use that time. Will you travel, volunteer, take classes, provide eldercare? How will you frame that experience when the time comes to explain it?

If you already have a gap in your career, think about the stories you can tell about how you grew during that period. If you prepare yourself with stories–as answers to the inevitable questions that will come from recruiters and hiring managers–you’ll be in a better position to overcome potential bias or doubt in the mind of the interviewer.
